Your First Class
Below are some hints to help you prepare for classes with us.
-
Training Treats
You will need to bring a variety of small soft treats to train your dog. Some of the
more popular treats are cheese, hot dogs, pizza crust, and liver treats. End cuts of ham,
turkey or roast beef from the deli counter cut into small cubes are also good.
-
Water & Water Bowl
It is always a good idea to have water and a bowl with you, especially in warmer weather. If
your treats are a bit salty your dog may need extra water during class!
-
A hungry dog
A hungry dog will be more interested in training with your treats rather than playing with their fellow classmates!
-
Leash and Collar
Your dogs leash should be 4 to 6 feet in length and easy to fold into your hand. The collar should be a quick
release, flat buckle, martingale, or gentle leader.
-
Comfortable Clothing
Wear clothes that you can kneel and bend in easily. Shoes with a rubber sole would be best. Pockets for
training treats, a clip-on or tie-on pouch to hold your treats.
-
Food / Elimination Routine
Note your dog's normal feeding time and elimination routine the week prior to class. You may need to
adjust feeding time so that your dog can have dinner and eliminate on his/her regular schedule
before coming to class.
-
Toy
A toy can be a great training tool and also help your dog relax in a new environment. So bring
along your dogs favorite toy to fit in your back pocket.
